The Queen Mary

If a "Stay aboard the Queen Mary for an experience unlike any other." is for you, board the Queen Mary Hotel for an experience unlike any other. Once a world-class ocean liner, the Queen Mary, now permanently stationed in Long Beach, offers a real glimpse into what transatlantic travel was like during the 30s, 40s and 50s. With its impressive history and tradition of excellence, the ship is more than just a place to rest one’s head. It’s also a place where you can take historic tours, see paranormal attractions, browse shops, relax on the spacious sun deck or enjoy fresh seafood at Chelsea Chowder House & Bar. Even in the rooms you’ll find an impressive history, rich tradition and old world elegance. The ship’s 346 original first-class staterooms and nine suites, adorned with rich wood paneling from all over the world, Art Deco built-ins and original artwork found on the ship during her heyday, all pay homage to a bygone era. Enjoy one of the last luxury ocean liners of its kind.

Pros: Loved the atmosphere, museum items, displays and old world ambience. We loved the experience

Cons: Not making the effort to make a room ready earlier when we were clearly exhausted. Check out is 11am, so why could a room not be ready by about 1pm? Once we did get a room slightly earlier we were made to feel like we had been done a huge favor and were very lucky. There was a bit of neighbour noise.

Pros: It was great being able to see so much of the history of the ship.

Cons: Coffee and tea facilities in the room would have been nice. Staff in some areas could be more attentive.

Fabulous stay on a piece of history and explore the impressive boat at your leisure.

Pros: Amazing decor and room. Being able to walk around the whole boat the next day was great. Engine room and propellors (viewed in the water from special viewing box.)

Cons: A light bulb wasn't working, so room was bit dim. Portside room free upgrade was boring view - starboard side - Long Beach side would be nicer. Breakfast was $29 on top. No late night bar on board - it all ended a bit early. Parking also extra.

Excellent experience!

Pros: Very individual experience! Could have done with another day.

Cons: Hot water - took a long time to come through. Lacked extras in the room ie tea/coffee facilities and more drinking water could have been provided. Considering the price of the room - breakfast was pricey!

What a (noisy) adventure. I loved it

Pros: This was a unique experience, staying in an epoch defining vessel that retains its charm. A real surprise, and a great 'pre-cruise' taster.

Cons: The acoustic challenges are well documented, and even though I was kindly given earplugs, and I didn't mind the music thumping, I could hear every word of my neighbours' pre-marital argument til 2am..I know the potential mother in law doesn't like the long term girlfriend. Will he propose to her..I will never know!!!

Pros: Loved the authenticity. Fabulous considering it was built 90 years ago and retains most of its original features. Room was comfortable and the bathroom was just as it would have been. I loved it. The staff on reception were fantastically helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food at Promenade cafe was good. Everything exceeded my expectations.

OVERALL, WE ENOYED OUR STAY AND WOULD RECCOMMEND IT

Pros: WE LIKED THE 'OLD' WORLD INTERIOR AND THE AMBIENCE AND TAKING INTHE HISTORY OF THE SHIP

Cons: ORIGINALLY ADVERTISED WITH TEA/COFFEE MAKER BUT THERE WASN'T ONE IN THE CABIN AND WHEN ASKED RECEPTION, TOLD OUR ROOM DOESN'T HAVE ONE AS THERE WASN'T ENOUGH PLUGS (RUBBISH) OBVIOUSLY, BECAUSE IT IS MOORED IN A PORT, IT GOT COLD DURING THE EVENING AND WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE HAD SOME SORT OF HEATING, ESPECIALLY IN THE MORNING

Amazing Experience Stepping Back in Time

Pros: What an incredible experience. It was like walking back in time as we stepped into the foyer and the staff were excellent. They remind everyone that it is basically a museum, so the fixtures and fittings are not to modern standards. We found that this added to the whole experience and the fact that we were in the Royal Suite probably helped too.

Cons: There was a Halloween Fun Fair on the quayside but the staff had provided earplugs and we were also offered a change of room if we wanted.
