Chateau Marmont

The Chateau Marmont was built as the first deluxe high-rise apartment complex on Sunset Boulevard, opening its doors in February of 1929. Its gothic charm and old-world European flair were inspired by the Chateau Amboise in the Loire Valley, where Leonardo da Vinci was said to have spent his final years. With each passing decade, every Hollywood icon of its generation -- from Greta Garbo and Clark Gable to Marilyn Monroe and James Dean -- has called it home. It has remained the hotel of choice for the entertainment industry, music, fashion and art world ever since. Within its thick, poured concrete walls and among its lush tropical foliage, it is still the favored hideaway of a clientele looking for the utmost in discretion, privacy, and excellent service with all of the warmth, personality and charm of a boutique hotel.

Staying there was an event, so glad we did it,

Pros: Historic and full of famous ghosts, quaint rooms with good quality linen, great bar.

Cons: Sunset Boulevard - that end is a little scary.

Pros: First time at the Chateau: the hotel is deliberately old-fashioned, but its charm is fully matched by top-notch service and staff. You might find yourself sipping a cocktail at the bar as a Hollywood diva walks in, or discover the pool closed for a private event like the launch of a new album: this is Chateau Marmont. A special mention goes to Carlos, a wonderful person and a truly attentive professional.

10/10 will definitely be back!

Pros: Absolutely breathtaking. The staff at the Chateau are fantastic! They go above and beyond for their guests! Nate was so kind to us and upgraded our room as we were on honeymoon! Would find it really hard to stay anywhere else in LA after staying at Chateau Marmont! Even bumped into Jessica Simpson in the elevator!

Cons: There was nothing we didn’t like!

Unique hotel experience

Pros: Hotel with a lot of history. It is old but you know that when you go there. The rooms look fresh and clean despite their age. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We were completely satisfied.

Cons: Nothing, really.

A place you should stay at - at least once.

Pros: It is great to have Chateau Marmont back open. It had always been my hope to stay there. Had a nice big room but a shame there was no balcony (which it showed for this room type in the booking.com photo). A great hotel to see celebrities. (Baz Luhrmann at the next table one night). Concierge was always very helpful. Restaurant terrific too. Nice to have a kitchenette.

Cons: Could be noisy at night (but I suppose that is to be expected). Room furniture a bit of a hodgepodge. None of the styles matched. Quite a few of the doors had been removed which was a bit strange, especially in the bathroom area. Pool was fine but not as good as other high end LA hotels.

Perfection

Pros: CM is always a nice place to relax, unwind, meet friends, soak up the sunshine and be transported to another era. The property is central to many things, however feels like its own private sanctuary. The staff are always exceptional, with particular recognition to Brendan who is a staple to the property and the ambiance - he’s a professional who keeps the standards high for all guests and ensures we are never without a cosy nook, a menu or a drink. This trip I met a newish addition to the team, Nick - who was working by the pool, who had a bubbly energy that was infectious to all around him. It’s the staff who make the venue what it is, always considerate and engaging - no matter how busy the venue is.

Amazing hotel with a lot of history

Pros: - a unique experience in LA’s most historical hotel - amazing atmosphere, boutique style - very good service

Cons: - rooms are outdated, particularly the bathrooms. I know this is part of the concept, but this is a five star hotel so i would expect at least the bare minimum without losing the historical appeal
